Guidelines: In an essay of at least 6 pages (not including your works cited page), explain what your topic is and what your research has revealed about it. You should explain why your topic is important, and you should organize your essay around a central thesis about the topic. Be sure to explain the value of your topic in the specific context of our course, an interdisciplinary seminar on Latinos and language in the U.S., and also explain why it is valuable to teach about your topic to your classmates in this class. In this essay, you should be less interested in covering all the facts about your topic, and more interested in identifying important questions and controversies related to your topic, as well as giving your own take on these questions and controversies. You must refer specifically to—and quote from—several research sources, including at least some scholarly (peer-reviewed) sources. You must cite these sources according to MLA 8 (2016) guidelines, including perf-ect works cited page. Your entire essay should follow MLA 8 formatting guidelines and avoid plagiarism meticulously (see below). Dr. B. has provided samples of successful past student CRP essays on Blackboard, so take a look at those to get an idea of what your essay should look like. Also, Ceclia Montes-Alcalá’s essay “Hispanics in the United States: More than Spanglish,” which we read for Week 5, does all of the things you want to do in this essay in an excellent way, so you could use her Capstone: LLUS (Summer I 2021) Blackmore 7 essay as a model as well.
