Cultural Identity Paper

Description

Purpose: The purpose of this assignment is to give you an opportunity to examine how your own cultural and social identities affect your worldview and your communication.

Knowledge: You will be required to decide how your own cultural, social, and personal beliefs, values, and norms affect the ways you communicate with others, and to tie your findings to course concepts. Your paper will be evaluated based on your level of insight, your demonstrated understanding of course concepts, and the quality of your writing. In this six to eight-page paper, you will be required to use a minimum of five reliable and credible outside sources in addition to an effective engagement of the various terms/concepts/theories learned throughout this quarter.

Research: For this paper, you will be required to provide a minimum of five outside sources in addition to your textbook. These sources should come from reliable and credible sources. Allowable sources can include newspaper or magazine articles, academic journals, film, or web videos. Wikipedia will not be allowed as a source for your paper.

Task: To successfully complete this assignment, you will:

1. Complete the Cultural Identity Introduction Worksheet and Cultural Identity Annotated Bibliography assignments that were assigned earlier in the quarter.
2. Critically analyze the cultural identities your wrote about in your Cultural Identity Introduction Worksheet.
3. Use a minimum of five reliable and credible outside sources that you used for your Annotated Bibliography as support in your paper. Your paper should be between 6-8 double-spaces pages long, not including a title or references page.
4. Use proper APA formatting for your paper, the in-text citations of your sources, and for your references page at the end of the paper.
5. Upload your paper to the Cultural Identity Paper by Midnight of the due date.

Criteria for Success: You will be graded using the following criteria:

1. Submission is on time.
2. How well you critically explore your own cultural identities using various concepts from Intercultural Communication.
3. While this is YOUR narrative, which means that the writing is not going to be as strictly academic as other papers might have been in the past for you, it still needs to be free of grammatical and spelling errors in addition to “text speak.
4. The paper is well-organized with an introduction that previews what you will be talking about in your paper, the body with the content of your information, and a conclusion that gives an overview of your information.
5. You have utilized proper APA formatting throughout the paper, including being double-spaced with 1” margins, and proper formatting of in-text citations and the references page.
