It is the process of compositing photos and videos. Previously there was a special class of expensive video editing machines, now video editing software is available on PCs and workstations. Video editing includes cutting slides and clips, re-sequencing clips, adding transitions and other special effects.

The one who performs the installation or montage process is called a Monteur or editor, and the editor relies on his experience, artistic sense, general culture and ability to reproduce scenes that look familiar, but by cutting, pasting, rearranging and timing of events, they turn into a work of art with a consistent discourse directed to the viewers.
