CJS 240 Week 1 DQ 2Is the participation in delinquent activities a normal part of maturing or are there specific factors that initiate this behavior? If taking part in delinquent activities is part of maturing, what contributes to the progression from normal adolescent behavior to chronic offending? Explain your answers.Sample Answer Response 1Participation in delinquent activities isn’t a normal part of maturing. Some of the specific factors that initiate this behavior is peer pressure, low self esteem, and genetics/parents not being mature adults and role models. Children that contribute in these kinds of behaviors usually have assistance through their peers or have chosen to engage in it because of their own selfish reasons, or maybe because of genetics/ or parents who are not their physically, mentally , or psychologically to help mold the children. Having children around you that are into making trouble for themselves without any concern for the people that care about them or anyone else’s feelings can easily influence a child that is already weak minded and looking for a way to get attention. Genetics/parents not being a healthy influence in their children’s life can also lead to delinquent actions because children are in constant need of attention and if a parent is being neglectful or has a history or delinquent behaviors as a child this can affect children in a negative manner. The important factor to remember is that with time, patience, love, and the right attention most children would not be so easily influenced to turn delinquent actions as a way to grab and keep attention. Children.…………………………………………….Response 2This depends on how you define delinquent. On the other hand young people that speed, bully, drink, and defy their parents are displaying normal behavior for teenagers. Teenagers tend to have a need to test boundaries and need to learn how to be an adult by making mistakes as a teenager; often times this is the best time for them to make those mistakes. At this age they have no worry about bills or family, so they have their parents to look after them. The adolescent brain is also not fully developed and studies show that the adolescent brain configuration makes teens more likely to take risks that adults do not……………………………………..
