In a 6-7 double-spaced research paper, explain in your opinion whether Reconstruction was more of a failure or more of a success. In your essay, identify and analyze political, economic, and social factors, individuals and groups, as well as events from the end of the Civil War in 1865 through the Compromise of 1877 which help solidify your argument. Please use the M.L.A. format, both in the text and in your separate Works Cited page, which does not count toward the 6-7 pages.You must use at least six sources, (Foner can be used sparingly, but does not count as one of your sources), three of which must be primary (written or created during the time frame we are studying: (1865-1877) and indicated as such in your Works Cited Page. You can indicate this by separating the primary and secondary sources with a simple horizontal line. Please do not use Wikipedia, Britannica, or other simple Internet sources unless you are using academic search engines like EBSCO, America’s Historical Newspapers, Facts on File, or a source that was originally published as a hard source and later adapted for computer use (such as the New York Times). The Southwestern Library Data Base should give you everything you need.
