I have to answer to this question in 15 pages double space based on 10 different books.
The explanation is as followes:

Judging from and referencing the readings so far, I 
want you to address two related questions: A) What is folklorethe stuff? Here 
you will want to consider what kinds of things may be considered folklore, and 
you will want to discuss which of the definitions or characterizations we read 
appeal to you and why (or by extension, which ones dont appeal and why). You 
may want to offer your own definition, but consider its limitations as much as its advantages. And B) What is folklorethe field of study? Or more to the point, 
how would you characterize the approaches to folklore illustrated by the 
readings so far? What is the point of studying folklore for our authors, how do 
our authors go about doing what they do with folklore, and what is to be gained?  
In sum, why and how are they studying folklore, and to what ends?
