For this assignment, we will only be studying O Brians first short story in the novel, The Things They Carried. In your essay, I would like you to take each theme from the following list.  Relate and connect each theme to at one or two separate and specific examples from the story. Be sure to explain each example (scene) and discuss how what is written illustrates each theme. You must have at least one quote that exemplifies the theme a well as a clear, complex, and concise analysis. This is a five- seven paragraph essay that must include an intro paragraph (with a clear thesis statement), three or more body paragraphs that each illustrate an example of EACH theme, and a closing paragraph that reiterates (not repeats) your thesis, examples, and a thought-provoking final statement.  DO NOT PERSONALIZE THIS ESSAY.
