Benchmark – Case Study

Observe or interview a child or adult in the age range of interest to you. You should have observed or conducted an interview at least three times during the duration of this course. The person you observed or interviewed should not be a family member. Each observation or interview should have lasted 30-45 minutes.
In 1,000-1,250 words, including the following in your case study.
1. Give a brief physical description of the person observed.

2. Discuss the cognitive, social, moral, and emotional development of the person observed, using concepts and terms studied in this course.

3. The Developmental Milestone Chart that has been created during this course will help in the completion of this assignment.

Case Study: Helpful Tips

One of your class-long assignments is a case study. The case study is designed for the student to apply the terms, concepts, and theories from the textbook and discussions in a real life setting. Each week in the forums, we look at various aspects of cognitive, social, moral, and emotional development of the age groups across the lifespan, based on the textbook readings. If you choose to do an interview rather than an observation, you will develop questions that address the aspects of development presented in the text and discussed in class. Your paper should describe your interviewee’s level of development in each of these developmental areas using the terms, concepts, and theories presented in the textbook and discussed in class. If you choose to do an observation, then you should be observing the developmental features of the individual and present your discussion using the terms, concepts, and theories discussed within the textbook and class discussions.
It is always a good idea to click on an assignment’s rubric to see how the assignment will be scored. The case study rubric asks for the descriptions to be connected to research. This means that your descriptions of the cognitive, social, moral, and emotional development are supported by documented research with internal citations and their corresponding references. If you note the difference between the excellent and good scoring categories, the descriptions of the excellent categories mention current research. Current research means your textbook, government websites, and peer reviewed journal articles published within the past seven years.
Since you are required to interview or observe an individual three times during the course for 30-45 minutes each time, I suggest beginning the case study this week so you have enough time to complete the assignment.
