Enculturation Interview: Option 2 – Perspectives on Sex in the Media

This assignment is about perspectives on sexual behavior as portrayed on televsion.

You willinterview four individuals for this assignment: two males and two females (be sure to note thesex, relative age, and culture of the subject). You will select a male and female elder in your culture and ask them to tell you how the view ofacceptable sexual behavior as portrayed on television has changed since they were teenagers.You will also interview them on what factors they believe have contributed to these changesand how they feel about them and why. You will also select a male and female elder from yourculture who emmigrated to the U.S. after their teenage years and ask them to tell you how theview of acceptable sexual behavior as portrayed on television has changed since they wereteenagers. You will also ask them how different or similar the portrayls of sexual behavior ontelevision are in the U.S. compared to their country/culture of origin. You will also interviewthem on what factors they believe have contributed to these changes and how they feel aboutthem and why.

You may create a specific list of questions that you believe will help you illicit this information oryou may conduct an informal open interview in which the interviewee talks freely and yourecord the information provided.

After you have completed your interview, use your interview materials and the informationabout sex and gender from the textbooks and modules to write about perspectives on sexualbehavior as portrayed on television in the United States and how these compare to practices inother cultures. Additionally, discuss how similar or different your own perspectives are andwhat factors contribute to this.

The Format

Your paper must conform to the following specifications:

•It must be typed and spell checked (some grammatical errors will be forgiven but there willbe no mercy for spelling errors).•

You should use Times New Roman 12-point font or a comparable sized font.•Left/right, top/bottom margins should not exceed 1 inch.

•It must be double-spaced throughout.

•It must be five pages in length, no less and no more!

Grading Criteria

Your paper will be evaluated for how well it fulfills the assignment. Full credit will not be givento papers that are too short, too long, or do not make “sense.” Nor will full credit be given topapers that do not address both the internal and external elevator observations, or are missingthe observation field notes.
