We examined the narratives that are been told about Latinx and how that has impacted the experience of Latinx in the United States. Our community as a whole is subject to the anti-immigrant and anti-Latino sentiments that result from the conflictive arena of migration policy, regardless of our immigration or citizenship status.

———> In this paper I want you think about the most salient factors affecting Latinx economic, social and political empowerment. Using the readings from the class, I want you to examine the central obstacle to Latino immigrant empowerment. What are our authors saying about this issue? Refer to your notes on the readings in responding to the essay question; refer to as many of the required readings as you can. At the end of your essay you should include a complete reference list, correctly listing all sources.

should include at least five of the book chapters and/or articles we read for class plus at least two more citations (at least 7 sources). You can use in-text citations combined with a complete citation at the end.

General comments for writing papers:

1. Structure your papers around your thesis; your argument; your response to the prompt.

a. each section of your paper should accomplish a specific part of your answer

b. introduce your paper with a thesis statement (or a series of thesis statements)

c. write about what other analysts have found in relation to your thesis

d. tell us what you conclude, based on your research and review of materials

2. To make your analysis hang together, write analytical transitions between the sections of your paper, making it clear how one section leads to the next and how the sections are related. Do this AFTER you write the sections.

3. Your introduction should clearly identify your thesis statement.

4. Don’t describe the stages of your experience in writing the paper (such as “at first I thought … but then …). Instead, focus on the final results of your research and your final analysis.

5. Interpret and comment on your quotations. Follow the quote with your interpretation.

6. PROOF READ and then ask a friend to proof read again. (very important )

7. Use an active as opposed to a passive voice (example of passive voice: The issue was protested by Latinos. Active voice: Latinos protested by doing X, Y, and Z.)

8. Double space (ALWAYS) and justify to the left

9. List references at the end, including author, date, title (if from an edited volume, include the volume’s editor and title), place published, and publisher. Lead your reader back to the original source and credit the original author.
