ntroduction and Annotated Bibliography Assignment

So this assignment is actually pretty straightforward. You’re going identify 5-7 sources to use for your paper, make your list, and then write a little about each source. Annotated bibliographies help me as your teacher to understand your thinking and give you feedback. But the annotated bibliography is really the most useful for you. It will help you organize your sources and your own thinking, learn more about your topic, and will even start you on the basic structure of your paper.

I remember being in English class, and so intimidated by the phrase “scholarly research.” What did that mean?? And then I had teacher who helped me put together an annotated bibliography. She explained why it was helpful, for both her and for me. It turns out, this work is what’s called, “scholarly research.” I liked de-mystifying that term, a lot. I hope I can help you with that too.

PURPOSE: The purpose of this assignment is to help you organize and categorize the information you’re gathering for your research.

Instructions:

Use the “research scavenger hunt” to read, view, listen to, etc. a variety of sources on your topic.
When you find a source you like, use the Research Pass/Fail sheet to see if it’s a source you think is legitimate, relevant, and scholarly. Do this two more times, for practice.
Select 5- 7 sources. Please use at least 3 written articles. The rest can be sources of your own choosing – just make sure to cite them the right way.
Create a properly MLA formatted annotated bibliography.

Requirements:

You will have a minimum of 5 annotations.
Your annotations (notes) should all relate to the topic you were assigned.
Your annotations (notes) should be formatted in MLA style.
Your annotations (notes) should NOT be copied and pasted from the article. These should be in YOUR WORDS only. Please review the definition of plagiarism in the syllabus and contact me if you have questions.
Your Annotated Bibliography should look a lot like the example at the end of this document. The example I’m giving you is actually from a paper I wrote in my own undergraduate program, about Cleopatra in Shakespeare.
