The purpose of this assignment is to give you the opportunity to do a deep dive into one aspect of Human Resources and to relate one topic or issue to the Hospitality Industry.  Pick a topic that interests you.  This is a research paper, therefore it follow a format, and you need sources for your work.  The sources are in APA style format.

 

The Topic

Select a Human Resources (HR) topic or HR issue that has influenced the hospitality industry. Reflect back on what we covered in class and in discussions.  Use the textbook to review topics that interest you and that you want to learn more.

The Paper format:

The paper is word processed in Times, New Roman, Calibri or Ariel font, double spaced and 12-point font. The margins are one inch on the top, bottom and sides. The paper also includes a title page and ends with a reference page. Proper grammar and spelling are important. The references are in APA style. The paper should be between 7 and 10 pages long excluding the title page, abstract and references (endnotes).

The paper has several parts.  A title page, abstract, main body of the paper and the end notes or references.  You should follow the APA style for formatting your paper.  See the Purdue Owl and use it as a guide.

  • The title of your paper that includes the name of the HR topic.
  • Your name
  • Course designation and title: HOSP 480 Human Resources in the Hospitality Industry
  • Your professor’s name: Dr. Sheryl Kline
  • Date the paper is completed.

Abstract

This is one hundred words or less. A brief summary of your paper

Keywords: no more than five words.

Body of the paper

The main body of the paper includes several sections. Each section should start with a heading with the name of the section heading.  The headings for each section in the paper are the main points that relate to your paper topic.

  • Introduction– define the topic or issue and explain why you are interested in the topic. Briefly explain why this HR topic is an issue in the hospitality industry
  • History and/or backgroundof the HR topic- the laws, policies and historic background.
  • Current issues– how do the HR professionals and managers handle this topic now, what are the current challenges around this topic
  • Relationship or Impact on the Hospitality Industry-Specifically how this HR topic influences the hospitality industry- is this issue different for hospitality companies, it is more important or more challenging?
  • Trends and  Future Outlook– how might it change in the future?  Is there new technology or ways that this is changing?
  • Conclusion-This summarizes your paper and pulls everything together.

References

References both intext and end notes should be in APA style.
