1. Individually review a recent (no more than 6 months old) media piece or article from any media source (newspaper, magazine, journal, website like msn.com or Google News, University Star, etc.).
2. Select a topic relevant to the social work profession, such as ethical dilemmas, special populations, social work issues or problems, roles social workers can play, the planned-change process, diversity, social justice, etc..
3. Type a 2-page, first-person narrative, using the following guidelines.
   • • • Briefly summarize the item you reviewed (approximately 1 paragraph).
       • Type the rest of the paper as a personal reflection on thoughts or ideas the reading generated.
       • THIS IS AN APPLICATION PAPER – APPLY THEORY TO PRACTICE (i.e., What a social worker could do in this situation, ethics, roles, critical thinking, planned change process, person-in-environment, etc. – BE SPECIFIC).
       • USE THE KNOWLEDGE YOU GAINED IN CHAPTERS 1-5 IN THE K-A TEXT AND BE SPECIFIC!!!
       • Use your new vocabulary and concepts!
4. The paper must follow acceptable guidelines for formal writing and comply with APA style (7th ed).

      • All written work must be submitted on 8.5 by 11-inch paper
      • The paper must be double-spaced with one-inch margins
      • The paper must be typed in Calibri 11, Arial 11, Lucida Sans Unicode 10, Times New Roman 12, or Georgia 11
      • All papers should include an appropriate APA Title Page – no abstract needed
      • All papers must have APA-appropriate page numbers on each page.
      • All quotations, paraphrases, and summaries in the text, must be documented using APA parenthetical citation.
      • You must attach an APA-style References page.
      • IF IT IS ON THE REFERENCES PAGE, IT MUST BE CITED IN THE TEXT AND VICE VERSA!!!

*Failure to attempt to cite in APA when needed will result in half credit on the paper.
